I intially Joined kintbury & District gun dog club back in 1994 as a complete novice with an unruly Springer Spaniel .
Having spent several months Trainning with an old hand i was invited onto Shoots in the area.

In 1996 i Aqquired a beautiful 8 month old Bitch called "Holly" who by all accounts was very laid back and cool she taught me so much about the breed .
Over the next year I worked hard to give Holly the best Training I could,To be fair Holly had a sixth sense and understood perfectly what i required of her and often Knew better to which i will explain later.

We entered regional heats for "field trials" which Holly wiped the floor with the competition and ended up arriving at the National field trials with a happy smiley Bitch and a very Nervous Paul .

We had a series of Test one of which was Two handlers and their dogs covering a strip of land to flush any game that lay within it.
The rules were simple whichever dog flushed the game got the opportunity to retrieve .

as long as the dogs quartered and turned when asked to by whistle command and flushed some game then we were on for a good shot at the title.

Holly had all by herself worked out that if she worked slightly ahead of the other dog chances are she would get to flush more .

The owner of the other dog was getting more irrate by the moment as he instructed his dog to get on Holly made sure she kept him on the inside.

The owner of the other dog is a well known spaniel trainer who had produced many FTCH and FTW in his time and here was this upstart with his young Bitch showing him up.

Holly won the Gold Merit and was bestowed the title Field Trial Champion
to give her a full title "Holly of Wansgrove" FTCH

Holly sadly died in 2004. we were out walking on a country road when suddenly Holly ran from where she was,She hit my chest with a great force pushing me into the verge she then took the full brunt of the speeding car driving like a loony down the road and therefore saved me from a very nasty act. Luckily the car didnt stop as i swear i would be doing time for murder right now.
I picked holly up and craddled her in my arms and i knew she was badly hurt ,She gave me a knowing look and smiled before passing away in my arms R.I.P Holly xx

From there i went onto train other peoples dogs to try and acheive a high standard of Working dog
I was contacted through the club by Thames Valley Police to assist in Training their Spaniels for working in the Drug detection Field and helped set up the program they currently still use today

I also helped HM Customs & Excise train several of their Spaniels in detecting Drugs on incoming vehicles and Freight into the United Kingdom.

I currently have Vesper a 6 month old Cocker Spaniel and I am aiming to get her up to speed as to be able to enter her into Field trails when she is 2 years old she has the natural flair and ability to make the grade I just have to provide the training love support and patience to get her where she belongs.
